Great River Road Rally & Dinner Cruise
On
October 2nd the Chicagoland and Wisconsin Sections of the Mercedes-Benz
Club of America joined together to sponsor the "Great River
Road Rally and Dinner Cruise" in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. A
total of 33 cars were entered and their drivers and navigators
enjoy a crisp, clear fall day touring the Mississippi River area.
The
Rally began in Lacrosse, wound its way through Onalaska and the
quaint town of Trempealeau before a refreshment break in Winona,
Minnesota. Winona is known as the "Tiffany Capital of the
World" and the city contains lots of beautiful architecture
including two "Prairie Style" banks similar to those
of Louis Sullivan. From Winona, the rally ran up the high bluffs
of Minnesota where the views are spectacular and down into the
river city of LaCresent. Finally we crossed the Mississippi into
LaCrosse, and ventured to the top of Granddad Bluff before ending
at the Lacrosse waterfront. All in all about a 90-mile ride.
At
6:00 PM the rally participants along with 8 others, who did not
participate in the Rally, boarded the LaCrosse Queen paddleboat
for a 2-1/2 hour dinner cruise up the Mississippi. The dinner
was wonderful as was the live entertainment. But perhaps the most
enjoyable part was the cruise was the beautiful Mississippi scenery
and a trip through No. 7 lock and dam.

I would like to personally thank Diana Quinn for
Co-Hosting this event and bringing our two sections together. I
could not have asked for a better partner. We were a team and we
should do more things together among our Regional Sections. Thanks
also to go Diana’s husband Jim and my wife, Rita, for their
help and support.
