Drive to Dine a Success
Two of these casual, new events were held in April. The
first was on Sunday, the 18th at Kopp's Frozen Custard in Brookfield.
The weather was warm but windy. Attending were 11-adults and
2-children in 4-SL's, 1-SLK, and 1-CLK Cabriolet. A
few of these MB's were purchased new and others had prior owners.
A cross-section of membership was represented with a couple of
long-term members, a couple with several years in the club and
new members Mike and Janice Strampe. We looked over the cars
and went inside to continue socializing over sandwiches and custard.
The dedication of members like the Loseke's who drove down from
Green Bay and Lowry's who had another event to attend that evening
was appreciated.
On Saturday the 24th, others met in Fond du Lac at JO JO's BBQ
just off Hwy 41 at Hwy 23 exit. 9-adults attended in their
cars and enjoyed a variety of selections off the menu including
BBQ Chicken, BBQ Pork, and Fish. It was a cool but
dry day and everyone said the food was very good. Ruth Wolfgram
was there to sign autographs after having her picture in Friday's
Journal-Sentinal. Scott and Colleen were sporting beautiful
sweaters from their recent Ireland trip. The conversation
was lively and we hated to break it off, but most had other things
to do. Everyone drove over 50 miles to get to the restaurant and
no one was complaining. It was a nice day for a drive and
we had fun! Marc Wolfgram even took time-off from his work
on the May Rallye to stop by and share some tips from the rallye.
It sounds like the rallye will be a good one. We'll look for
a 1st place trophy from someone in this group!
The next Drive to Dine is a month away at the Cruise In Diner
in Kaukauna.This is a "Jersey-style" Stainless Steel
diner with a muscle-car theme decor. Casual dress and faire. Get
this one and the others on your calendar. Call a friend with
a Mercedes and suggest they come meet you. Also, if you know
of a unique location and/or one with an interesting menu, give Dean
or Nancy Pearson a call at (262) 782-7960. We would like to
get more of these on the schedule.
Wisconsin member's Fintail featured on
MBCA National site
Those that made it to to 2003 MBCA car show at the Milwaukee
Yacht Club saw Grant Stanfield's original 1961 220 SEb 'Fintail'
in person. Grant's car with his daughter, Elizabeth, were featured
in the MBCA photo contest and appeared on the National web site...

This picture is of Grant's daughter, Elizabeth, in front of "Dada's
Shadies", as she so charmingly puts it.
The car is an all-original, unrestored 1961 220SEb 'Fintail' sedan.
More photo's of Grant's car at the Milwaukee Yacht Club appear
in the photo gallery.
Miscellaneous Section Bits and Pieces
As we prepare for the many exciting events in the warmer days
of 2004 ahead, we would like to thank Cathy & Jim Loseke and Jenni & Bela
Horvath for hosting the two events held while snow still
graced Wisconsin—respectively the Chicago Auto Show trip
in February, and the annual Fish Fry in March.
The picture of the Maybach on the Wisconsin Section Past
Cover's gallery page was from the Chicago Auto Show, where the Mercedes
area again contained ample and exquisite representatives from all
classes of the marque.
